Math Class!!
Welcome to 5th grade and to Carl Stuart Middle School! We have a very busy year ahead of us. I am excited to get started because we are all going to learn a lot during this school year!
This year the students will NOT have a math textbook to take home. Students will receive a workbook from Eureka math and a few printed materials in class that need to be kept in an organized binder. We have already divided the binder into five sections and talked about the things each section will contain. The workbook and math binder are used daily in class, and should not be left at home. It is very important that the students learn to keep up with their binder and keep it organized. Students are urged to take notes and copy all examples down in their binder. After each Module test, we will clean out the binder during class. Please do not throw anything away at home. Oftentimes, what is thrown away is missing work. :)
As I locate new parent resources, I will add them to the list of websites for you. Be sure to check out the "Parent Helps" page for some good information regarding how to assist your child with the new math curriculum and the websites that will provide the most help to you.
One of THE BEST resources I have found has been the website khanacademy.com. It provides math lesson tutorials. As you listen to the mini-listen, you will hear a teacher explaining the process and you see the teacher working example problems. Models and extra practice problems are also included on the site. You are able to search for specific math lessons in Eureka math on the homepage, so it should be a tremendous resource for you to use. In addition, I have Eureka Math homework helps for each module posted under the "Parent Helps" tab. Check it out!!
Feel free to contact me if you have any questions at all.
